From the benefits and pleasures of sex to understanding how people can avoid sexual risks and pain, I’m interested in what it takes for individuals to be happy and healthy in today’s society. I am a Canadian-born writer and researcher based in Sydney, Australia. My work provides something different: I combine feminist theories with quantitative science to bring attention to the social, cultural, and political issues related to sexual and reproductive health. In doing so, I aim to redefine sex—to challenge traditional perceptions of what sexuality is and what it needs to be. Currently, I am engaged in a number of projects in Australia, Canada, and the United States with women living with HIV, young people with disability, migrant communities, and the broader population. I have published widely in international journals and write regularly about health, sexuality, and relationships for the general public, including Cynthia Loyst's (host of the Canadian TV show The Social) blog called Find Your Pleasure. I also support women living with HIV globally in positive, pleasure-focused storytelling for Life and Love with HIV. I am a Research Fellow with the Kirby Institute, UNSW Sydney and an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University in Canada. I am available to provide expert opinion about sexual and reproductive health and rights for writers and producers of broadcast, print, and online media.
